Little Miss Independent...we're only doing one newsletter this week because we're rebel women.
ON THIS DAY...
1884
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
The U.S. is presented with the Statue of Liberty in Paris...wait! It doesn't read, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses...and I'll take their children away!" Oh, the irony!
1984
The Supreme Court rules that Jaycees* MUST admit women as members. This explains so much - no wonder we're just getting our civil rights on!
*The Jaycees, aka the United States Junior Chamber - a civic leadership training program for ages 18-40.
SEE
Doors?! Whether you're Republican or Democrat, this is the best campaign video we've ever seen! We just know this woman is gonna knock down a few more doors in her lifetime. We may or may not be responsible for at least half of those 2 million views...it's that good!
HEAR
We seriously hate to dampen your patriotic spirit, but you won't be able to take your headphones off listening to parts 1 and 2 of The Daily's investigation into pregnancy discrimination. We doubt this is news to you, but it's a super helpful tool when you need help framing the issue for others at your Fourth of July Picnic.
FEEL
Maybe you have mixed feelings about this Fourth of July due to America's current political climate, or maybe it's the fact this holiday falls in the middle of the week. Either way, we've got a playlist that will get you into the firework spirit!
BONUS
Since we're only doing one issue this week, but we wouldn't want you to think we're slackers, here's some original bonus content, just for you! While you're listening to your podcast, try out this quick and easy snack board for your picnic or BBQ. Delish!
(P.S. Requests or recommendations? We'd love to hear from you, send us a note at gatherers@gathererent.com)
